Financial Controller

Newcastle upon Tyne 

Salary: £40,000 + 10% bonus

Our client are looking for a Financial Controller to manage multiple aspects of the financial function of the business working within the student accommodation sector. This is a hands-on role at an exciting time in the company’s development. The successful candidate will be required to implement new financial procedures and provide an essential link between the FD, the operations teams and timely reporting to our clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implementation of a finance management system
  • Create processes for all operational teams for finance tasks
  • Create a supplier/contractor approved process to ensure full compliance/process payments to suppliers/contractors
  • Manage deposit and rent bank accounts for each site
  • Reconcile payments against RMS/Finance system
  • Oversee the management and processing of the PO system, producing reports, making payments to suppliers and contractors
  • Managing float top ups
  • Producing monthly management accounts for each site for our clients to tight timescales
  • Managing the credit card reconciliation and coding
  • Processing deposit and rent refunds to students
  • Processing cashback offers to students
  • Checking and processing nomination referral payments to Universities
  • Managing the mobilisation budgets- tracking payments/processing payments
  • Processing top ups for petty cash for each site
  • Commercial unit invoicing and rent collection
  • Create new accounts/world pay accounts and a full finance provision for new sites being mobilised
  • Managing company expenditure recharging to clients
  • Processing development payment instructions

QUALIFICATIONS:

It is essential that the postholder:

  • Is a part qualified or qualified by experience accountant, ideally with accounting expertise gained within the property sector
  • 5+ years’ experience
  • Past experience as a management accountant, finance manager or financial controller

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience of monthly management accounting
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with accounts software and Excel

SKILLS:

  • Ability to prioritise tasks with conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems quickly
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
